The CSSD helps locate absent parents, establish paternity, obtain support orders, and collect support. For more information about CSSD's services, call or visit the CSSD office. The CSSD Clearing House collects and records support payments from those who must pay support. The Clearing House sends the payments to those who are to receive them.
The CSSD helps you if you receive a public assistance check (Welfare/TANF) to care for a child under age 21. The CSSD is required , by law, to help you get your child support if:
- You get a TANF check,
- Your child is in Foster Care, or
- You have a Medicaid card
The only time that the CSSD will NOT try to get support from the non-custodial parent is when there is "good cause." "Good cause" exists if you fear the non-custodial parent and have proof that the non-custodial parent would hurt you or your children. If you believe you have "Good cause" you must come to our office and apply for "Good cause" exemption.
